Framer to Astro migrationKeep the design.Leave the limits.
We rebuild your Framer site in Astro: the same design and motion, every URL kept or redirected, CMS collections and SEO moved, and the code and hosting in your name. It is the move we made with dixi.agency in October 2026. From $6k, in 3–5 weeks.

What does moving from Framer to Astro actually involve?
Rebuilding, not converting. Framer lets you download the published files, but they are generated code, hard to edit and as heavy as the live site, so we rebuild each page as Astro components from your Framer project, move the CMS collections through Framer’s CSV or JSON export plugins, carry the redirects over from Framer’s bulk export, and keep the motion that earns its place in CSS or a few lines of script.
| In Framer | In Astro | How it moves |
|---|---|---|
| Pages and components | Astro components and layouts | Rebuilt from your Framer project, pixel-checked side by side |
| CMS collections | Content collections or a headless CMS | Exported as CSV or JSON through Framer’s plugins, then imported |
| Images and assets | Optimised images served from your host | Exported, resized and compressed, alt text kept |
| Redirects | _redirects or host rules | Bulk-exported from Framer and merged into the URL map |
| Effects and scroll motion | CSS transitions, scroll-driven animation, small scripts | Rebuilt; heavy effects only where they earn their weight |
| Code components and overrides | Astro islands in React, only where needed | Rewritten as small components |
| Page titles, descriptions, social images | Set per page in code or the CMS | Carried over, then checked on every template |
| Locales | Astro routes per language | Mapped URL by URL; old locale copies redirected |

What we learned moving dixi.agency from Framer to Astro
We switched dixi.agency from Framer to Astro on 29 October 2026. Mobile PageSpeed went from 62 to 96 and LCP from 5.7 to 1.3 seconds. The four lessons below are what we now check first on every Framer site we move.
- URLs
Old copies Google still remembered
Our Framer site still had /en/ case study pages and old posts in Google’s index, long after we stopped linking to them.
Instead: Search Console’s list of known URLs goes into the URL map, not only the sitemap: we redirected all 32 old URLs we found.
- Speed
Motion and video on the first screen
Video and effects that start on load made the largest element wait.
Instead: Videos play only when they scroll into view and effects start after the first paint, so the homepage keeps its video without the wait.
- Tracking
Scripts before consent
Analytics and visitor tracking loaded before the visitor chose anything.
Instead: Third-party scripts wait for consent; our own visit statistics are cookieless.
- Search
Signals that only lived in Framer
Page titles, descriptions and social images were set page by page inside Framer.
Instead: Every page carries them in code, with structured data, a sitemap with real dates and IndexNow.
Lab tests from PageSpeed Insights on the live domain, 27 October and 3 November 2026. The full before and after is on the website migration page.
What does Framer cost next to Astro?
For a small team the platform fees are modest either way; what changes is how they grow. Framer charges per site plan and per editor, while Astro is free and a static site on Cloudflare’s free plan costs nothing to serve. A Seed team with two editors pays about $600 a year on Framer and $0–60 on Astro with Cloudflare.
| Framer | Astro on Cloudflare | |
|---|---|---|
| Site plan | Basic $10 a month; Pro $30 a month per site, billed yearly | Framework free; static assets free on Cloudflare |
| Editors | $20 a month per editor; content-only editors $10 a month | No fee; a headless CMS adds seats only if you choose one |
| Server features | Included in the plan | Workers free plan with 100,000 requests a day; paid from $5 a month |
| Seed team, 2 editors, one language | About $600 a year | $0–60 a year |

When should you stay on Framer?
Stay on Framer when your designers publish layout changes every week themselves and the site already passes Core Web Vitals. Move when speed, editor fees or the limits of the canvas keep costing you.
Move to Astro if
- Mobile PageSpeed stays low however much you tune the site
- Editor seats cost more each year as the team grows
- You need custom data, AI features or a design system in code
- Engineers or AI coding tools should be able to change the site
Stay on Framer if
- Designers ship layout changes themselves every week
- The site is small and already fast on mobile
- Nobody on the team can review a pull request
- A redesign in Framer is planned within months
Can I export my Framer site and host it myself?
Yes: Framer lets you download the published HTML, CSS and JavaScript and host them anywhere. But that is generated code, hard to change by hand and as heavy as the live site. For a site your team will keep editing, rebuilding the pages as Astro components is the cleaner path; the CMS moves through Framer’s CSV or JSON export plugins (Framer Help, porting your data).
Will my Framer animations survive the move?
The ones that help the page do. Scroll reveals, hover states and most transitions become CSS or a few lines of JavaScript; heavier effects are kept where they earn their weight and replaced by a lighter version where they slow the first screen. You review every effect on staging before the switch.
How long does a Framer to Astro migration take?
Most Framer sites move in 3–5 weeks. A 10–20 page site with one CMS collection is at the short end; several collections, locales or custom code components add time.
What does it cost to run the site after leaving Framer?
A static Astro site on Cloudflare’s free plan costs nothing to host, and there are no per-editor fees unless you choose a paid CMS. On Framer, Basic is $10 a month and Pro $30 a month per site, billed yearly, plus $20 a month per editor.
Will we lose rankings when we leave Framer?
Not if every URL with traffic keeps its address or gets one 301. Framer sites often carry old locale copies (such as /en/ pages) and pages that never made it into the sitemap; we found both on our own site and redirected all 32 old URLs we found.
Who edits the site after the move?
Marketing edits content in a headless CMS such as Sanity or Storyblok, or in a Git-based editor such as Keystatic. Designers who loved editing layouts in Framer hand layout changes to a developer instead, which is the main trade-off to weigh.
Can we keep Framer for some pages?
Yes, for a while: landing pages for a campaign can stay on Framer under a subdomain while the main site runs on Astro. Long term we recommend one platform, so the design, analytics and SEO live in one place.
Have other teams made the same move?
Yes. Frigade wrote about moving its site from Framer back to code; we made the same move with dixi.agency in October 2026. Our numbers are on this page.
